A result of a major investment of US$ 160 million in the state-of-the-art technology, the PSPD coated boards are comparable with the world's best and offer a significant competitive advantage on quality and cost. Soon to be started in June 2004 , is a 3-wire Voith machine with three coating stations at a total investment of USD 50m.

A customer-driven company, ITC PSPD continuously explores new ways to meet the printing, packaging, and conversion requirements. The fully automated board machine with a capacity of 120,000 TPY is designed to produce dimensionally stable boards.

The new board machine has been designed with the singular objective of making the company a global competitor in terms of Quality, & Economy of Scale.

Machines: Paperboard Machines

Board Machine 4 (1998), with a capacity of 120,000 TPY is a state-of-the-art board machine that offers significant advantages of global competitiveness in terms of quality, economies of scale and cost. Folding Box Board, SBS board, WLC board, Liquid Packaging Board are produced on this machine. Machine details: 3 layer, 4 wire configuration, 6.5 meter Dia MG, 3 Coating stations, DCS & QCS: 5 Smart Platforms for on-line feedback & control.

Range: 200-450 gsm

Board Machine 1 is a combination machine capable of producing coated & uncoated MG / MF, Single / Multi-ply products. Coated Duplex boards, cupstock baseboards and saturating kraft papers are manufactured on this machine.

Range: 180 - 360 gsm; 60000 TPY

Jagenberg, Germany Vari-step 58 two-drum winder with winding density control to deliver reels with precise, clean and dust free edges

Sheeting

Willpemco, & Jagenberg Synchrofly cutting technology adopted to deliver precise, fluff-free sheets. An automatic web joint rejection, & on-line counting systems ensure defect-free & accurately counted sheets

High-speed Wrapmatic wraps 9 Reams / minute

Shrink wrapping

Thimon shrink wrapping machine wraps the pallets in a 100 micron shrink film to provide protection from dust and humidity

ASRS

Automatic storage & retrieval system for all sheets / palletized material computer controlled & robotised operation

Paper machine 5

Over the years ITC has developed several new products and variants to meet specific industry and customer needs. The bandwidth of products has increased continuously and moved up on the Value-Quality scale and today represents one of the preferred set of choices for any discerning global customer seeking more effective medium to present, pack and protect content or products in a world overloaded with messages.

In order to meet the changing demands and needs of the customer, the PM-V was commissioned on 6th October 2004 at Unit Bhadrachalam with the capacity of 80,000 TPA. The new Voith machine is a 3200mm trim Multi-Fourdrinier with the following advanced features:

  • Hydraulic head boxes on all three-wire section – for better formation and close tolerances on grammage and caliper
  • Duo-D former on filler layer - for improved formation
  • Ceramic foils - for uniform water removal
  • Closed hood dryer with heat recovery system - good profile and energy saving
  • 5100 mm diameter MG Cylinder - to give smooth top structure
  • Two top coaters including a blade coater and one back coater - for optimum print reproduction

The paperboards from the new machine will reinforce ITC PSPD’s leadership in Recycled Boards market in India and in export markets. The machine can also make Virgin Boards. Coated folded box boards will be made from April 2005.

The recycled boards from PM-V have been designed to give optimum print and conversion performance. Initial trials were completed in the second week of November on our Standard Test Forme. The roll out of the Grey back and White back boards has started impressively, with the customers voicing satisfaction and delight at the superior bulk and stiffness.

The commissioning of the PM-V is a renewed commitment from us to meet the growth aspirations of our customers who seek internationally benchmarked packaging boards in terms of quality, cost and performance. ITC’s Paperboards business has a strong customer focus. The company’s Paperboards business devoutly practices a “Total Quality Assurance” philosophy and mindset during every stage in its manufacture of Paperboards.
